Intelligent Devices' origins can be traced back to the idea that an industry standard could bring about a transformation in the transportation industry and bring simplicity and efficiency to an industry rife with complex, proprietary systems.  NTCIP was born in 1996, with the idea that a standard, universal communication language would steer the Intelligent Transportation Systems sector towards easily deployable ITS. 

Armed with broad knowledge of NTCIP, Intelligent Devices began trail-blazing and championing the cause of NTCIP with simple solutions.  Intelligent Test, IDI's NTCIP Device Tester and first major software offering, was the first product of its kind to inform a client whether or not a device was NTCIP conformant, for DMS/VMS signs, cameras, and any other type of ITS device.

As agencies, manufacturers, and integrators began to see the value in terms of saving time and money with NTCIP, Intelligent Devices became known as The NTCIP Experts.  Intelligent Devices NTCIP Central Software, Intelligent Control, was developed to bring a broad based NTCIP system to agencies that needed plug and play solutions.  Intelligent Control, Intelligent Parking, and Intelligent Snowplow were born from the same idea: NTCIP Simply Works Better!

Intelligent Devices also developed solutions to solve the problem of non-compliance with older ITS devices.  The development of the IDI 1000 Series of embedded devices provided quick, inexpensive solutions to make NTCIP integration easy for clients with older devices, as well as provided a cost effective OEM solution for the manufacturer of new products.
