OR Tambo Case Study
Intelligent Devices is proud to release the OR Tambo Case Study on Intelligent Parking Guidance. This project, deployed in 2007, includes 12,000 individual bay sensors and an integrated software suite that includes Intelligent Parking, Intelligent NETworks, and Intelligent Incident.
The Airports Council South Africa (ACSA) decided to implement an individual bay monitoring system inside the parking facilities at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa to provide motorists with highly reliable and accurate information. The airport’s main objective was to reduce the time drivers spent looking for a parking space and improve customer service.
The findings show that the system drastically reduced the time motorists spent looking for available spaces. Time searching went from 15 minutes down to 2.5 minutes after Intelligent Parking was installed. Parking revenues increased significantly because of better utilization and occupancy of the facility. It was estimated that the airport increased their revenues by 5-15% due to the parking guidance system.
The case study reveals that the users absolutely love the system. Customers are phoning in compliments and raving on how the system saved them valuable time. Newspapers were also congratulating the airport on such a successful project that helped the public. Airports Council South Africa has stated that this is the “single most successful project from a customer relations point of view.”
