Letter from Bryan Mulligan...
Welcome to Intelligent News and Happy New Year to everyone. It is looking to be a great year for IDI and for the ITS industry in general.
I have taken over the chair on the NEMA 3TS Section and with this leadership role I have been thinking through how NEMA, NTCIP, and other standards making bodies can best serve their various constituents. This discussion will become focused during the NEMA annual meeting in Washington DC on February 23 -24. I will let you know what transpires.
Brazil's federal road authorities have officially mandated the use of NTCIP on all Brazilian federal roads. The official announcement is here (in Portuguese) and a translation is here (in English). This announcement is further testament to the success of NTCIP in the global ITS marketplace.
The USDOT and the European Union have published a joint declaration of intent with regards to cooperative vehicle systems. You can read the announcement here. Of particular interest is paragraph 10 which establishes the clear intent to establish global open harmonized standards for these technologies
