| Johannesburg Airport Parking Guidance – The New Standard for ITS Parking Guidance …
Intelligent Devices is pleased to announce a major new order, for the supply and installation of an Individual Bay Count Intelligent Parking System in Johannesburg, South Africa. This contract, in excess of $2 million, has been awarded to IDI in conjunction with our distributor, SATT.
The contract calls for the supply and installation of 10,000 individual bay sensors, 225 IDI 1301 NTCIP Data concentrator modules, and the Intelligent Parking suite of client server control software.
Parking guidance to the driver is delivered by means of external signs approaching the airport showing the overall parking situation, with additional signs showing more detailed information as the driver approaches the individual car parks. Even more detailed information, by floor, is then displayed to the driver and finally when approaching the parking bays the open bays are indicated with a green LED display above each bay.
Of particular interest to the ITS community is the adoption of the NTCIP standards in this deployment. The electronic signs (large VMS, small VMS and directional signage are all NTCIP conformant to the 1201 and 1203 standard. The sensor status and control is achieved through the 1201 standard, and augmented as required with an open architecture Parking MIB. Approximately 90% of the functionality could be achieved without any development at all.
